Atyrau region is located in the west of Kazakhstan.
The area of the region is 118,631 sq. km. The region includes 2 cities (Atyrau is a city of regional subordination, Kulsary is a city of district subordination), 7 districts, 15 settlements and 56 rural districts.
The population is 662,212 people as of June 1, 2021.
Neighboring regions and countries: Atyrau region borders with West Kazakhstan region, Mangystau region, Aktobe region and Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation.
The climate is sharply continental, extremely arid, with hot summers and moderately cold winters.
The region is one of the most balanced developed regions with the potential for further economic diversification. There are great opportunities for further development within the framework of the Customs Union, as well as taking into account the proximity to large industrial regions of Russia (Samara, Saratov, Orenburg, Astrakhan).
The petrochemical, machine-building, food and construction industries are developed.
